Trends in Research on Cognitive Rehabilitation Approach for Dementia Patients

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective : The purpose of this study is to find out trends in research on cognitive rehabilitation approach for dementia and to provide available basic data for therapists.
Methods : Studies were selected through a search of computerized databases of the literature (KERIS, since 2001) using ‘dementia’ and then ‘cognitive rehabilitation’, ‘cognitive training’, ‘cognitive therapy’ as key words.
Results : Application of the search strategy to the KERIS databases resulted in 173 articles. Based on titles and abstracts, the first author selected 13 studies except for articles of phamacological intervention, hormone therapy, surgery, cognitive test, symptoms of dementia. 13 studies were included, a high level of level I 7.7%, level II 46.2%, level III 38.5%, level V 7.7%.
Conclusion : To activate the cognitive rehabilitation treatment of patients with dementia in Korea, personalized rehabilitation treatment approach should be developed to reflect the characteristics of dementia disease.
